This has been recommended by Margaret Cefferty, I have not had the opportunity to check this out myself yet, but according to the website there is free access, parking and a flat path that circumnavigates the loch. It is also a haven for wildlife. More details will be found nearer the time in the Darkroom.
Since this was first posted, John and I have now visited Hoggnfield Loch, approx 45mins away. I am not a wildlife photographer but noted there appeared to be a lot of swans and herring gulls,and some moor hens . The park is a great family park with facilities that are open in the evening , however the loch itself, pretty enough, is quite featureless in some respects. A lot of course depends on the light on the night. However there are lochs closer to home with probably the same mix of wildlife, but possibly other points of interest also.
There is parking at Hogganfield , and a good broad tarred walk that circumnavigates the loch. Ideal for wheel chair users, cyclists etc. One advantage for a personal visitfor anyone wishing to explore further, is that you can hire bikes and the loch is part of a network of 7 small lochs that extends over a large area with a network of paths interconnecting them. I know one of these lochs is Drumpellior Park , I think this is in the Hamilton or Coatbridge area.
Due to the nights now drawing in and erratic weather, I am wondering whether there is an appetite for this last outing. If so what is the preference? do we visit Hogganfield,or a more local loch/venue? do we do the Royal Observatory , Blackford Hill, or do we park these suggestions for another time ?
