Mon 26 Aug 2024 - Summer Syllabus UPDATE - Hogganfield Loch, Glasgow
This has been recommended by Margaret Cefferty, I have not had the opportunity to check this out myself yet, but according to the website there is free access, parking and a flat path that circumnavigates the loch. It is also a haven for wildlife. More details will be found nearer the time in the Darkroom.
Since this was first posted, John and I have now visited Hoggnfield Loch, approx 45mins away. I am not a wildlife photographer but noted there appeared to be a lot of swans and herring gulls, and some moor hens . The park is a great family park with...
Mon 19 Aug 2024 - Summer Syllabus - Royal Observatory, Blackford Hill, Edinburgh
This was recommended by Bob Hosie as having excellent views over Edinburgh. The grounds around it are also a nature reserve. There is a driveable road to the Observatory with Parking, although to get to the summit there is a short steepish walk on an asphalt surface. When checking this out we were unfortunately caught up in torrential rain with no rain gear and it was blowing a hoolie, so we had to turn back off this path. As the festival is still in progress and if people wanted to stay late, this might be an opportunity for firework photos. There will be more details in the Darkroom...
Mon 12 Aug 2024 - Summer Syllabus - Potential Locations Around Lanark
The following is provided by Elaine Forrest. Possible Locations for members who would still like to attend a Monday night outing .
I am fairly familiar with Lanark, my daughter and family live there and I have long thought its a good location for a variety of different shots in different areas. I am sure many of you are also familiar with it. I think its a fairly big project.
My thoughts are.
1. Street and architecture, which would involve a walk around Lanark itself , through the various closes and vennels, exploring the area for different shots.
2. The Loch,...

Sat 3 Aug 2024 - Summer Syllabus - ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS, Edinburgh Festival Day
For those members who are interested in going into Edinburgh on Sat the 5th of August can we please have suggestions on a meet up point and time.
I, myself will probably catch the train from Livingston South , I expect others might do the same so I suggest meeting outside the waiting room/ ticket office in the station.
What area would you like to cover ? The High street is the obvious spot, but there are other areas of interest .
Do people want to meet for lunch / coffee break? If so does anyone know of a suitable location .
A trip into Edinburgh to capture...
Mon 29 Jul 2024 - SUMMER SYLLABUS AMENDMENT AND ADDITION
MON 29th March, Summer Syllabus . The venue tonight is NEW LANARK VILLAGE and THE LOWER FALLS. Most people appear to be naking their own way there, however if anyone wants to car share or get a lift please contact me and I can meet them at Crofthead around 6.45pm. There is usually enough parking within the village and there is parking at the hotel. There is also parking at the top of the village, before turning to go into the village proper, but this requires a walk down steps or a steepish hill through the woodland.
SPOT THE DELIBERATE MISTAKE !
Hi everyone, I suddenly...
Mon 22 Jul 2024 - Summer Syllabus - Chatelerhaut Country Park near Hamilton
This is a large estate with a hunting lodge and long views over to Ben Lomond. There are many paths and trails, around the lodge the paths are fairly flat and asphalt as are the paths around the car park. There are scattered objects of interest within the grounds and extensive woodland. There is a rough hard core, steepish, track down to the River that should afford a good view of the arches of the bridge, although a different view is possible from near the lodge. There is a similar track down to the top of the bridge and a ruined castle (folly) behind this. There are other varied routes...

This is a woodland and nature reserve with the buildings as added interest. It is near the Village of Airth. Access is by a rough, narrow potholed road of approximately a mile but this takes you to a parking area at the Pineapple building. From there around a 5 minute walk to the Pineapple passable with a mobility scooter. John and I spent an afternoon checking it out. Elphinstone Tower is roughly a 20 min walk on hard packed track. Negotiable with care on a mobility scooter. Hower its 5 mins through rough grass to get to it, although possible to get photographs...
