Douglas May - "Embracing Contemporary Photography"

Douglas May is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. He was a member and then Chairman of their contemporary distinctions panel from 2004 until 2018. He has exhibited and spoken widely including a talk with Paul Hill and Brian Steptoe on the origins and the purpose of the Contemporary Group within the Society. In 2011 he was one of the selectors for the RPS International exhibition. Douglas was President of the Edinburgh Photographic Society from 1997 to 2000. He will be talking about Contemporary photography which is most easily defined as being about a subject. The talk covers contemporary and historical subjects such as the cancel culture, the attempts to define our history through slavery and more whimsical subjects such as “Why go bald?’ It will also cover Douglas's approach to taking portraits.
